Opportunities for healthcare sector organizations looking to add student talent

Webinar recording of the ACE-WIL Webinar hosted on January 14, 2021. In response to the pandemic, the Federal Government announced funding to support the placement of 3,000 co-op students in the healthcare sector and in healthcare roles. Hear from BioTalent and Magnet – both are Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) partners – about how the funding works and what’s available. You’ll also have a chance to hear from two health sector organizations about how they’ve worked with students, what they’ve learned and how you too can benefit by bringing a work-integrated learning (WIL) student onboard.

Toolkit for Employers, Organizations and Programs to Support Students from International Pathways

This project developed a toolkit for employers and organizations to aid them in hiring and supporting SFIP. This project will increase co-op and work-integrated learning opportunities by easing the hiring and on-boarding process for employers and organizations when working with SFIP. To ensure our collective strategies are articulated system-wide, we designed a toolkit by identifying, analysing, and drawing on evidence-based strategies used by BC public post-secondary institutions, and employers and organizations that are inclusive of those outside of major urban centres and in rural areas.

Employer Engagement Toolkit

The Applied Learning, Co-operative Education and Career Services department (CECS) at Camosun College is responsible for providing a wide-range of work-integrated learning opportunities and programs across the college.To do this successfully requires continuously developing employer relationships and engaging in appropriate job development activities. Specifically, the regular and timely connection with business and industry to build the essential relationships that result in a plethora of co-op and WIL opportunities.

Co-op for Arts PhD Students Creating Conditions to Grow Graduate-Level Co-op

Graduate student education is grounded in a “master-apprentice” paradigm. Faculty are training PhD students to become the next generation of professors—a career path that only a few PhD graduates will pursue. Yet UBC Arts graduate students in academic programs have lower participation rates in co-op than their peers in professional graduate programs.

Emotional Intelligence and Work Integrated Learning Toolkit (KPU)

This open and adaptable toolkit was created by Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) student project assistants, Alexandra Taylor (Arts) and Jamie Verschoor (Bus). It is a resource for post-secondary educators interested in ways to bring emotional intelligence (EI) into their WIL conversations. It contains an overview of the KPU COWIL project including why emotional intelligence is an important skill for students, how participants are using EI in their practice, case studies, classroom activities, interview questions, and additional resources.
